FGCU Student Collaboration - Week 2
September 20, 2019 / Contributed by: Megan Shinham
Friday, September 20th, I continued my work with Wave Zone. I began by discussing a plan of action with Jeff and Lisa in our weekly meeting. I presented a strategic plan for my project, outlining weekly goals and targets.
After showing them the shapes I found most fascinating, we decided that I would begin the morning by looking through various templates and designing my own. Jeff advised me that to make the board ride swiftly through the water, the curves of the board must be aerodynamic and seamless, so the water flows off the board. Taking all of these into account I designed my board shapes using both vintage designs and my own sense of artistic license to create a visually interesting shape. I drew my design as a split template on Masonite board, and cut it out using a jigsaw, further, sanding down the edges of the template themselves to make the edges flow.
In the afternoon I began working on the design of the collaboration logo I hope to display on the boards. Using my signature and a vintage Wave Zone surfboard logo, I used Adobe Illustrator to create a vector logo for my board line. There was a lot of trial and error, however, I am very happy with the results.
I’m stoked for this opportunity and I’m ready to start shaping next week!
